Dr. Sue Becker

Dr. Sue Becker has more than 25 years of experience in college athletics at St. Cloud State University, where she developed an appreciation and understanding for the complexities of intercollegiate athletics and its role within the university. Throughout her career, Dr. Becker has championed gender equity, enhancement of opportunities for women, and education as the central function of intercollegiate athletics. She has been committed, not only to the legal requirements of Title IX, but also to the intent of Title IX legislation.

Dr. Becker held several positions at SCSU, starting as the Head Softball coach and moving into Athletic Compliance before being elevated to Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator, where she provided leadership and role modeling for sustaining a culture of transparency, professionalism, integrity and respect at all levels. She served also as an Associate Professor, teaching in the Sport Management undergraduate and graduate programs. As the Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator, Dr. Becker was responsible for all internal operations, managing a diverse intercollegiate athletic program of 23 sports including Division I Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey, and supervising a budget in excess of $10 million. She had direct involvement in personnel management, budgeting and annual financial reports, athletic financial aid, compliance and gender equity/Title IX policies. She played a leadership role in developing and enhancing women’s athletics, working tirelessly to build resources and opportunities for women.

Dr. Becker received her PhD in Sport Studies from Oregon State University in 1995, a Master’s degree in Physical Education from Emporia State University in 1984, and a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1982.
