BURNABY, BC (May 1, 2016) Less than four months into her tenure as Athletic Director at Simon Fraser University, Theresa Hanson is already hard at work trying to bring one of the most exciting recent additions to Clan athletics, an NCAA Division I men’s hockey program.
Collegiate Consulting is pleased to announce that Simon Fraser has enlisted its services to research the feasibility of adding the program and to provide a business model to aid the university in making its decision. The plan is already in its inception, and pending the university’s decision and timing, Clan hockey could potentially be on the ice for the 2018-2019 season.

“It’s not just to determine our costs and our revenue opportunities, but also to determine what would be the right fit for where we would play,” said Hanson. “And this isn’t something that is going to take a year or two years. The actual consultation piece, we’re thinking three-to-six months. So I’d like to think that by end of the summer or the end of September at the very latest, that the university, which fully supports this consultation, could make a decision.”

Collegiate Consulting will begin work on the study in May with a four-to-six month completion window. The firm, which has worked with more than 500 institutions since its inception in 2005, has completed hockey projects for Minnesota – Moorhead, Bemidji State and Simon Fraser.

“We are thrilled to be working with Simon Fraser again, following the Division II Feasibility Study we completed for them in 2008 as part of the NCAA membership process. There is such tremendous passion for hockey in Canada and British Columbia and we are looking forward to starting this project,” stated Collegiate Consulting Managing Director Russell Wright.
